Andrew SelousWelcome

Christians in Parliament (CiP) is a non-denominational and official all-Party body, working throughout Westminster with a clear vision: to encourage relationships in, with and through our Lord Jesus Christ.

You will be pleased to know that there is more Christian activity in the Palace of Westminster than generally assumed. Contrary to the media image it is a rather friendly place, and is home for a large part of the day to some ten thousand people.

I am very conscious of how the Christian faith of many Parliamentarians in the past has been instrumental in changing our country for the better and I see part of my role as CiP Chair to encourage all those working within Westminster is to see all MPs, Peers and those working in Westminster working to fulfil the particular callings in public life that God has placed upon their hearts.

CiP is open to Peers, MPs and all policy and house staff in the Palace of Westminster, and exists as an umbrella for the diverse expression of the Christian faith in Parliament. There are informal prayer and Bible study groups, and formal services in the Chapel of St Mary Undercroft, Methodist and Roman Catholic as well as Anglican. Both Houses of Parliament begin each day with prayer, led in the Commons by the Speaker’s Chaplain and in the Lords by a Bishop. Once a term there is an evening supper reception with an invited speaker, giving us an insight into a topical contemporary issue.

Each year Westminster Hall hosts the National Prayer Breakfast, with the kind permission and active support of Mr. Speaker. We are also linked with other groups of Christians in the workplace, and overseas, often struggling in an environment more hostile to an open expression of faith.

Thank you for visiting our website. We deeply appreciate knowing that many thousands of people are praying for Parliament and its work every day and we trust that the information contained here will be helpful and informative for you.
